Do you feel alone? Consider this: If God exists, and He created us for the purpose of having a relationship with Him, it would make sense that not connecting with Him and not having a relationship with Him would make you feel like something is missing.
The website I AM SECOND interviews people from different backgrounds (normal and famous) who found what was missing from their lives. None of their stories are the same, but the One who met them in their need is the same. Go to: www.iamsecond.com.
According to the Bible, the previous scenario is true. God created us for the purpose of having a relationship with us but we have all turned away from Him in one way or another. The emptiness and meaningless feeling is a result of ignoring the reason and the One for whom we were created. Our natural (sometimes seemingly involuntary) rebellion against God and how He created us to live has caused us to be separated from Him. The Bible teaches that the penalty for sin and rebellion against God is death (Romans 6:23). Knowing that none of us can pay for our own sin except by dying, God Himself took our the penalty of death through His Son Jesus Christ dying on a Roman cross for us. After paying our penalty, God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. By accepting God's gift of life to us through His Son, and after asking for God's forgiveness, we can approach Him to begin the relationship we were created to have and are promised eternal life with God when we die.
Ekklesia is an interdenominational, evangelical Christian church that holds to sound biblical doctrine. It is not part of a particular denomination. It is connected with an association of churches known as the ARC which provides pastoral care and support for church leadership, adherence to orthodox doctrine, and more. There is a diverse group of churches in our association, including well-known Scum of the Earth Church in Denver, Colorado (www.ScumoftheEarth.net). You can learn more about the ARC on their website at www.arcchurch.org.
What Style of Worship Music Does Ekklesia Have?Ekklesia uses very modern worship music. We incorporate styles such as indie rock and ambient sound to glorify God. We use music from artists like David Crowder and Cool Hand Luke, as well as modern versions of hymns. In our overall church service we strive to be relevant, personal, and biblical to help people grow closer to God.
Where is your church and when are you services? We meet Sunday evenings @ 7:00 pm and on September 12 we will have a morning service at 10:30 am. We meet in our building, which is a "converted storefront" at 2564 Clearview Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44718, it is in the same plaza as the Stark County Vet Clinic, off of Fulton Rd. near the Football Hall of Fame. Our gatherings are casual and interactive.
YES!! We are planning on adding a 10:30am morning service starting September 12, 2010! The reason we currently meet Sunday evenings at 7:00pm is because it works best for many people in our church. We will be keeping the 7:00pm service and adding an identical 10:30am service for those who want to rock with us in the morning.
Do you have anything for children?Yes we do! As part of our children's ministry, we have child care for infants as well as a fun, relational environment for children where they can enjoy church, and learn about Jesus and the Bible. Children will experience fun, games, and age-appropriate Bible teaching.
Some people have concernes because we have a unique name, we look different than a lot of churches, and we are younger, but there's nothing to be concerned about. We actually hold to conservative evangelical theology (view What We Believe ), and believe in all the major Christian creeds (i.e. the Apostle's Creed). If it makes you feel any better, if we ever serve Kool-aid, you are welcome to drink something else.
Christians are sometimes skeptical and even angry because of our tag line, "a relevant church." The answer is simple: We use this tag line to let people know we're a church (since "Ekklesia" is a word from biblical ancient Greek) and to describe part of our mission. Our church tries to connect God's message with people where they are. For those of you who are wondering or are angry for some reason, just because we use the word "relevant" it doesn't mean we're "watered down" or "theologically liberal" - we simply care about allowing God and the Bible to speak relevantly to your life. God and the Bible are intrinsically relevant to ALL of our lives...unfortunately, Christians have done a poor job at communicating this. So put down your torch and let us love you.
Come to one of our gatherings on Sunday nights @ 7:00pm. It is a casual and interactive time of worship, teaching, and community. A good way to get connected to our community is through one of our Home Groups during the week, a Prayer Group after service, to hang out with us at one of our events, or to let one of us know you want to hang out and so we can go get some coffee, ice cream, or buffalo wings. Another way to get connected is through serving in one of our ministries or to possibly start your own totally sweet ministry with your unique gifting! For more information see our Community page!

Yes! In the U.S., 3,650 churches close every year, and 80-85% of existing churches are plateaued or declining. The majority of churches that are growing are mostly from transfer growth, which is people who are already Christians switching churches. In the New Testament, the church grew through conversion of people having faith in Jesus, not transfer growth. Stark County has well over 200,000 people who do not claim to be Christians and a large number of Christians who do not have a church family. This is surely enough people for another church!
